At least 15 buildings damaged by severe storms

FAMU's main campus in Tallahassee suffered extensive damage following a succession of severe thunderstorms that struck Tallahassee in the early hours of Friday morning.

Preliminary assessments reveal that at least 15 campus buildings incurred various degrees of damage, the Grand Ballroom, the Banneker Complex, and the old Plant Operations and Maintenance (POM) Building were among those affected. Roof and water damage were reported across the campus, in addition the roof flashing on Lee Hall was compromised.

 

According to the National Weather Service, the storm system made its way through south Tallahassee spawned multiple tornadoes, that uprooted trees, damaged homes and buildings, left roads impassable and downed power lines, leaving over 80,000 area residents without electricity.

 

As the cleanup and restoration process begins, FAMU students, faculty, and staff are urged to exercise caution and remain vigilant. Updates regarding campus operations and services will be communicated promptly through official university channels.
