The SBI 8, or 10 depending upon who's counting, was a major topic today on Roosevelt Wilson "Against the Grain" radio show on Tallahassee's WTAL radio. Today's guest was Bill Tucker, Chief Negotiator, with the FAMU UFF. Callers were particularly baffled as to how the Interim President could ignore a BOT directive to "make things right" with SBI 8.

It seems that dispite the directive made at the last Trustee meeting that the interim president has refused to let the eight faculty members in question sign new contracts. The faculty members, who are at work and getting paid, also have not been given any work assignments.

One caller suggested that perhaps the faculty should take action against the interim president by taking a vote of no confidence against her. That or some other type of direct action may get her attention.

FAMU High improves
We also learned from the show that FAMU High School improved from a "D" school to a "C" school this past academic year. The school will be honored by the Governors' Office and the Florida Department of Education as one of the 50 most improved schools, needing improvement, in the state. According to the Capital Outlook's Vaughn Wilson, on the "Against the Grain" radio show, FAMU was only 20 points away from being classified a "B" school.

  2. Why are all of these tenured faculty members so god#@#@ scared???

United we stand - divided we fall.

We need to get the attention of the Governor, the BOT, Cast(Hell) & Co. and the entire state of Florida. We have to let them know we are tired and we ain't gonna take it no more!

Gotta talk that walk to Lee Hall and if need be - to the Governor's mansion.

    Let's Go Rattlers - Let's GO!!!

  3. When did you last see a march that really worked the way they worked back in the Civil Rights era?

    Times have changed, friend.

Now, when dedicated partisans march on the capital, the main thing they earn is resentment of commuters for blocking traffic.

Different times require different tactics. The time for shouting, marching, and slogans is over. They did their job, and their done.

  4. When did you last see a march that really worked

This past April when students marched to the Capitol to protest the wrongful death of Martin Lee Anderson.

The students won, the Legislature shut down all youth bootcamps in Florida.

  5. That shut-down was already in the works.

The student march only created a situation where some national "leaders" could jump in front and claim that they led it.
