University-wide, as many as 600 adjunct professors, teaching assistants, and OPS employees may not have been paid since December 22, 2006.
Once such person is, Elizabeth Kelley, 21, a graduate assistant at the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication, said she’s supposed to receive payments totaling $3,500 for the 2007 spring semester. Hoping to earn a master’s degree in journalism in 2008, Kelley said on Tuesday she still hadn’t received any money from FAMU.
“We keep getting the runaround,” she said. “Nobody seems to be able to give us a straight answer. My credit card bill keeps getting larger and larger, and I have medical bills piling up and rent due.” She added that she’s now looking for employment outside of FAMU.

How soon before we get an entirely new leadership team? Will there be any holdovers from the current administration?
ReplyDeletebound to be a few holdovers just for institutional knowledge.
ReplyDeleteWho is in the running to be Provost?
ReplyDeleteI read where Ammons want to stay at NCCU until after spring commencement there. So it seems as though we have to grin and bear it with Castell for a little longer.
ReplyDeleteIn the meanwhile, what will happen to the 600 employees who will go without pay? That's what's important now, not prospects of Ammon's future administration.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know how the contract negotiations are going with Ammons and FAMU?
ReplyDeleteI bet you Lowe and Liz are going as slow as possible with these contract negotiations. The only reason for that is they probably have something up there sleeves. Why make the man wait, when he's obviously ready to come? We need competent leadership like yesterday, not tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThe Sith is at it again.
ReplyDeleteAren't these grad assistants a part of the Union? Where are their union reps in all of this? Where is Bill Tucker? I know he can put them on blast!
ReplyDeleteTo 10:49 AM:
ReplyDeleteAmmons wants to finish out the current semester at NCCU.
I hear they trying to low ball Ammons with the pay, offering him a package well below Castell's current package.
ReplyDelete^^^^
ReplyDeletethat cant be true...ammons better command or at least be met with what casthell makes.
600 people...that is a damn shame!
10:49--Dr. Ammons has said publicly several times that he wishes to oversee NCCU's spring commencement. That's why he staying until then; it has nothing to do with "making him wait."
ReplyDeleteA $300,000 a year salary should have never been given to Castell.
ReplyDeleteCastell will come away with a cool half million after taxes when she leaves. And what did we get for our trouble? JACK
I hear they trying to low ball Ammons with the pay, offering him a package well below Castell's current package.

Oh, it's true!
Ammons should start at no less than $300K, plus incentives.
ReplyDeleteNot be compared to the presidents at B-CC, FL Memorial, and Edward Waters. Cast-Hell's salary is not based on what they make at the other, smaller, non-state assisted HBCU's.
Hear that Liz! Get it right before you go!
I'm still trying to figure out how a post about 600 people being disenfrachised by FAMU turns into a discussion on how much Ammons is going to get paid. Black people never get anything issues resolved because they never stick to the issues that are most important. Or maybe the posters on this discussion thread just don't care because they're receiving their paychecks on time.
ReplyDeleteJust a thought

ReplyDeleteBaby... no body writing anything on this board can resolve the issue of why people have not gotten paid. This is an opportunity for people to "write about it," but these people don't have authority to authorize payment for anyone.
But, it seems that the message has gotten to (at least) Dr. Holmes, who is trying to make a difference.
The 600 people should be raising the roof at Lee Hall, or by contacting their trustees and uhhhh... the newspapers (?).
'z'
This is alone the lines of Tyson parading around in Black and Gold and telling any and everyone that he's an Alpha.
ReplyDeleteNo, I take that back. In Rev. Holmes day to day official capacity he is the pastor of Bethel, just like Lowe is the VP at Dollar General. However, this does not preclude Lowe from using the dollar general email system when communicating to the BOT.
So what if she of Jesse or anyone else for that matter uses company letterhead or emails.
We in the community would like to see these 600 or more people get paid in full soon, rather than later.
This is not good PR for FAMU or our position in the community.
7:30---here's a NEWS FLASH for you: Well, duhh-h-h-h.
