In her email to Trustees Friday, interim president Castell Bryant admitted that the scope of the payroll problems has affected 455 employees. And, since Feburary 1, over 700 "on demand checks" have been cut by the university.

RN has learned from one Department Chair that 1/3 of affected employees have been overpaid, 1/3 has yet to be paid, and 1/3 has not been paid at all. The chair said, no one has been paid the correct amount.

  1. The Tallahassee Democrat continues to blame Dr. Humphries for FAMU's current fiscal problems. Dr. Humphries has not been President since 2001, almost six years ago. Yet he continues to be vilified for current problems at the University. The Democrat posting that scathing and personal attacking article from the St. Petersburg times on the same tdo.com page of Diane Hirth's article regarding FAMU's payroll stinks to high heaven. This newspaper continues to misrepresent and twist the facts to impugn the reputation of Dr. Humphries. The Democrat continues to insult the general public with these propaganda and counter-intelligence tactics. It's time that all rattlers stand-up and let this newspaper know that it is no longer going to accept any attempt to lay blame anywhere other than where it belongs....at the feet of Corbin, Castell, Lowe and the rest of these republican groupies put in place to soften the public for a much larger agenda....This regime has been defeated. It's time that all rattlers and the general public announce to the Democrat that its a new day. Get onboard! Link: http://tdo.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070226/BREAKINGNEWS/70226014

  2. We can "announce" anything we want to the Tallahassee Democrat, but we have no control over anything those people write in their newspaper. The only thing we can do to combat the negative reporting is to get someone with excellent writing skills to craft a finely-written "My View" article and present your argument there. An inteligently written column might get you somewhere, but "annoucing to the Democrat that it's a new day," whatever that means, ain' gone get folks nowhere. Folks are always talking about "rising up" and making some kind of noise. This won't work in this type of situation. Plus, Fred Humphries has been long gone, so therefore what he's being accused of doesn't much matter. It's who's sitting in the big seat NOW that counts.

  3. Agreed on all accounts but one. Dr. Humphries and his legacy is the elephant in the room. Until we clearly demonstrate that the community is no longer interested, nor going to accept blaming past leaders, then the future will continue to cycle back to the 1990's when these so called "age-old" problems began. To move forward sometimes means that you have to clear the past and reset the table...So, unfortunately it does matter, although, I like you wish that it didn't....Onwards!

  4. Unrelated: Are you folks up on the letters sent to many 9-month faculty saying that FAMU failed to deduct health insurance (during the double-deduction for the summer period we are now in), and that such faculty have to take a check TOMORROW to FHAC or risk losing their coverage?

The letter contains not a word of apology, and it foists the problem off on the faculty affected, as if they caused it, which they didn't.

This deserves a thread of its own.
