Perhaps, by now, you've heard about Don Imus' racially insenstive comments about the Rutgers University women's basketball team. In not you can view them by clicking the TV screen above.
What's worse than Mr. Imus statement is the weak ass way that NBC Network's MSNBC tried to distance itself from him.
"'Imus in the Morning' is not a production of the cable network and is produced by WFAN Radio," said a statement from the network. "As Imus makes clear every day, his views are not those of MSNBC. We regret that his remarks were aired on MSNBC and apologize for these offensive comments."
MSNBC won't give a dam about what Imus says on the air, until they know that you give a dam.

This nappy headed educated sister is not surprised by the statements of Imus and those like him. My Bible tells me that a man reflects the condition of his heard. The Bible also states that a man thinks with his heart and speaks from his heart. He is hateful, therefore, he speaks hate. It is that simple.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that as much as it hurts to have people say things like that about us, I can't help but feel that we as black people are 100% responsible for introducing these terms to Imus and the white community at large. I personally believe Imus has the right to say whatever he chooses...I fully intend to express my right to free speech and will not be stifled. More importantly he isn't saying anything any worse than half the songs I listen to on the radio spit at me. If black people don't want it said about us, then maybe black men (predominant rappers talking the "ho" talk) should guard us a bit better than they do in private, and in public.
ReplyDeleteAmen 2:01 AM,
ReplyDeleteThe pot can't call the kettle black!
If you want respect give yourself respect.
3:03am, if you're as ignorant as your post indicate that your are, then you have some serious racial issues, and yes- you'll never "get it". You ASSume that ALL African Americans call each other derogatory names which couldn't be farther from the truth. Only a moron would make an asinine statement such as that.
ReplyDeleteJust like SOME of you (the melanin challenged) are bigoted and racist, there are SOME in the AA community who are just like you. The difference is, YOU and those like you have absolutely NO reason to be.
All of y'all above need to put that broad brush down.
Well any body now that once calling a sister Nappy Headed Ho, crosses the line and in Chicago where I grew up, those are fighting words.
ReplyDeleteFrankly I like Imus. He is a strong supporter of Harold Ford and just recently, he paid speciall tribute to the big pastor out of Tennessee (an african-american) that recently passed.
The Imus ranch, which he runs and funds, takes care of children with cancer and this program does not discriminate. He has no problem calling a spade a spade rather republican or democrat. And He frequently highlights his sons, multi-cultural elementary school.
Overall I think the guy is fair, and he is not afraid to discuss with white men their racial prejudices.
However, Nappy Headed Hos, crosses the line and frankly you would have to be black to understand the debt of this sort of insult. I just don't think he had a clue when he said this. He is a shock jock, and like Tom Joyner, he sometimes, only sometimes, performs on the edge and most times it's funny.
He made a big mistake. He show is full of substance on key political issues and I hope that he does not loose his show. I also hope that he does more and I am confident that he will. Wait and see.
Don Imus' comments are not surprising also given the revelations about how FSU folks feel about FAMU. It just shows that we've got a lot of work to do in this country if we ever want to come that "beloved community" that we always talk about.
ReplyDeleteLOL the people on these forms are funny. It’s like only African American people talk negatively about their people. Based on what I read here I have every right to say Caucasian women are nothing but a bunch of easy whores considering from what I see at Spring Break and Mardi Gra. Or the fact that 80 to 90 percent of the porn industry and images are of whom. And the image of the typical child molester and kiddy porn fiend are of whom again. No let me just call Caucasians the most dangerous and violent people in history based on the fact they have been the cause of the most destructive and deadliest wars/incidents in the history of man and continue to make weapons that could end all life on this planet. But I know that not all Caucasians people and shouldn’t reflect every person that is or was born that particular ethnicity or should it?
ReplyDeleteReally you going to use what you see and hear in Media to judge and view a people then it's no wonder more and more of this world are developing a dangerous hate of the United States. You should also know that most music executives push their artist to make songs with certain content and material and who usually make up those executives (this is not to excuse the artist at all). Black people aren’t perfect and we never said we were, but then again who is. Please people I have never called a woman a ho and most my boys don’t or have grown out of that stage a long time ago. When you stereotype a person that just show how small minded and ignorant you really are. America and I dare say the world society in general has issues that need to be resolved otherwise will continue this path of stupidity
I'm not surprised by the ignorant comments this man made. As an ex athlete thats nothing compared to the names we were called while playing all white schools. Racism and ignorance seem to go hand in hand. Prejudice people will always exist. I'm sure none of those girls are nappy headed, nor hoes. Its just a shame he was classless and stupid enough to characterize these girls like this because they have tattoos. I've never watched this mans show and I will never start. The funny thing is...I'm not surprised.
ReplyDeleteI am nappy-headed, and I do garden. I don't know why people are so upset with what he said. Imus is an idiot. Michael Richards ("Kramer") is an idiot. Frankly, I don't want any kind of "apology" from Imus, Richards, NBC and whatever other affiliates the man is connected to. The gangster rappers are the idiots for constantly calling sisters these names, the sisters in the videos are idiots for allowing themselves to be called these names simply because the want to be in a darn video. Where's the outrage regarding the brothers who constantly call sisters these horrific names and why are the video vixens allowing such a thing to continue to happen. Before we get to chastising Don Imus, we need to look in the mirror at ourselves. Therein lies part of the problem, and I dare say that "part of the problem" is a huge chunk.
ReplyDeleteDo you all get this upset when rappers call black women the same and worse names?
ReplyDeletedeepbluesea
^ Yes. It is all inappropriate.
ReplyDeleteHuba 4:58!
ReplyDeleteThere are NO BLACK distrubutors. A label means NOTHING. That is why Russell and SheP.Diddy (or mamma) are sellouts. At least they had a little leverage.
ReplyDeleteWhen has a rapper ever called a black woman a racially derogatory term like "nappy headed hoe" or "jigaboo"? You all seem to have forgotten the "nappy headed" and "jigaboo" portions of Imus' tirade. You all illustrate how easy it is to distract and miseducate black folks, so that they end up criticizing themselves. Go back and watch the clips of what Imus said and stop subtracting words, because you're not getting the real meaning.
ReplyDelete^^^^^
ReplyDeleteBlack folks, suffering from an inferiority complex, feel more comfortable criticizing other black folks and will bend over backwards to acquit white folks of any blame. These people are purposefully ignoring what Imus really said so that they can turn their criticism on black men and rappers.
I read a children's book by bell hooks called "Happy to Be Nappy."
ReplyDelete12:19---and your point is? Ok, you read a book by bell hooks. AND THE POINT IS????????? I've read most of hooks' books, but if you aren't going to offer a point to your statement, what's the point in simply saying "I read a book by bell hooks..." Good grief.
ReplyDeleteSTATEMENT FROM NBC NEWS
ReplyDeleteEffective immediately, MSNBC will no longer simulcast the "Imus in the
Morning" radio program. This decision comes as a result of an ongoing review
process, which initially included the announcement of a suspension. It also takes
into account many conversations with our own employees. What matters to us
most is that the men and women of NBC Universal have confidence in the values
we have set for this company. This is the only decision that makes that
possible. Once again, we apologize to the women of the Rutgers basketball team
and to our viewers. We deeply regret the pain this incident has caused.
