Despite the absence of the world-famous Marching "100", the Rattler team still ranked No.16 in average home attendance in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in 2012.

The Rattlers drew an average of 14,077 per home game, just 2,000 less than this year's Mid Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) leader South Carolina State. The Bulldogs pulled in 16,006 per game to pace the conference, ranking No.12 in the NCAA rankings.  The NCAA FCS data ranked a total of 134 schools.

FAMU's special assistant to the president for communications, Sharon Saunders, was elated with the outcome. She chaired the committee that planned and implemented the entertainment for home football game day festivities.

"This was a monumental collaborative effort. It involved the university, the community and alumni pulling together to make sure we supported our team. Our student-athletes deserved our support and the numbers underscore the fact that our fans are passionate. It was just a great overall effort," Saunders said.

In 2011 the Rattlers ranked eighth in the FCS, averaging 18,746 per game. In effect, the Rattlers would have moved up to fifth place overall in the FCS by just maintaining that attendance.
