Wong, McDaniel earn top MEAC weekly honors

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced on Monday that FAMU’s Alec Wong and freshman Willis McDaniel were named Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week after their performances against Marshall. The Rattlers tallied a school record 54 hits over the three-game series and scored 38 runs to start the season 2-1.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Wong the senior 2B batted .750 (9-for-12) with a double, three-run home run, six RBI and four runs scored including 13 total bases. Wong drew two walks and a hit-by-pitch as he finished the weekend with a 1.083 SLG%. He was also 2-for-2 on stolen bases as he posted an .800 OBP%. Defensively he was a perfect 1.000 FLD% as the starting second baseman.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: McDaniel, from Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, hit .385 (5-for-13) against Marshall and belted a home run in his first career at bat. McDaniel finished the weekend series with two home runs, six runs scored, six RBI, 11 total bases and a .846 SLG%. He had a .500 OBP%, 2-for-2 on stolen bases while he finished a perfect 1.000 FLD% as the starting center fielder in all three games.
