The ambitious group, which has received praise from
established artists like Wyclef Jean, recently submitted work for consideration
to perform at national, annual festivals like South by Southwest (SXSW) in
Austin, Texas, and Miami’s Jazz in the Gardens Festival.
Drawing from other artist collectives like TDE, led by Grammy award-winning artist Kendrick Lamar, and Odd Future, led by Tyler – the Creator, Crvscxnt Moon describes their music as “hip-neo soul.” Their aim is to provide musical stylings that challenge social norms, intrigue the mind, and break racial and social boundaries.
The group is comprised of three men and one woman. Two –
Kwayzar (Jesse Romimora) and Robert Blue Moon (Kinley Fleurejuste) – are
Rattlers.
Members Menlo Black, Messa, Kwayzar and Robert Blue Moon
each offer a unique ingredient needed to set the group apart from the
competition. The high level of musicianship among the collaborators provides a
lively and distinct sound.
Singer and rapper Black cites guitar and piano as part of
his repertoire; Messa is a singer/songwriter, who mixes unique blends of
heavy-hitting R&B and thoughtful lyrics; and FAMU graduate Blue Moon is an
unconventional singing rapper who loves storytelling.
Blue Moon says that his time at FAMU exposed him to
different people from all walks of life and helped him learn to connect doing
what he loves best, particularly with one of his closest and dearest friends
Keenan Stewart who passed away in 2013.
“Even after Keenan passed away, what he taught me stuck with
me,” Blue Moon said. “He always pushed me and gave me faith that I could share
my talent with the world.”
Blue moon added, “I am forever thankful for him and for FAMU
bringing people like us (Crvscxnt Moon) together.”
Kwayzar, who recently earned a bachelor’s degree in
psychology and a minor in graphic design from the University, is the only
member of the group that is not a musician by trade. He, instead, is a graphic
designer, photographer, and CEO of Keen Eye Photography. Kwayzar prides himself
on bringing Crvscxnt Moon’s music to life in a visual format.
“Music acts as the glue that holds this group together,
connecting, strengthening, and enforcing the creative energies we’ve developed
on our own over the years,” Kwayzar said. “We are dedicated to our journey and
purpose.”
