FAMU (4-11, 2-0 MEAC) held a narrow six-point advantage,
27-21 at halftime, but found themselves in a second half dogfight, as the
visiting Eagles (2-15, 1-1 MEAC) edged past their hosts, 32-27 on the
scoreboard.
Coppin State had chances to overtake the Rattlers and
possibly steal the victory Saturday, but their free throw shooting touch
deserted them in the second half, as they hit just four of 14 charity tosses.
FAMU took the ball and ran down the clock for a final shot,
with Marcus Barham launching a three-pointer with two seconds left, a miss
which bounced high off the rim and was tipped in by a soaring Dandridge,
prompting a premature celebration.
After the officials reviewed video replay, they restored 0.4
seconds to the clock, then after Coppin’s inbounds pass was deflected out of
bounds by FAMU, leavimg 0.2 seconds after a second video replay review.
But Coppin’s last gasp shot occurred after the horn leaving
the Eagles one point short.
Barham led FAMU with 18 points, seven rebounds, two blocked
shots, while going five of 11 from three-point range. Desmond Williams added 13
points and six rebounds.
Treadwell and Terry Harris tied for team-high scoring honors
for Coppin State with 11 points each.
