Florida Senate confirms Lawson, Carter, and Moore

The Florida Senate recently confirmed the reappointments of three members of the Florida A&M University Board of Trustees (BOT). Matthew Carter and Kimberly Moore were confirmed on March 8th. Kelvin Lawson was confirmed on March 9th.

Carter of Tallahassee, is an attorney and business consultant on energy, economic development, and education with Carter and Associates. He is a United States Army veteran and previously served as a member of the Board of Governors of the State University System. Gov. Rick Scott originally appointed him for a term that began on December 18, 2015 and ended January 6, 2018. His current term runs from January 6, 2018 to January 6, 2023.

Moore of Tallahassee is the vice-president for workforce development at Tallahassee Community College. The Board of Governors originally appointed her for a term that began on June 20, 2018 and ended January 6, 2018. Her current term runs from January 6, 2018 to January 6, 2023. FAMU trustees elected her as vice-chair on June 10, 2016 and then reelected her to that office on March 8, 2018. 

Lawson of Jacksonville, is a vice president at Acosta Sales and Marketing. He previously served as the director of national accounts for Johnson and Johnson. Lawson received his bachelor’s degree from FAMU. Scott originally appointed him for a term that began on March 23, 2011 and ended on January 6, 2016. The governor finally reappointed him (after a two year wait) for a second term that runs from January 7, 2018 to January 6, 2021.

Lawson became acting chair on May 12, 2016 and was then elected to a full term on June 10, 2016. He was reelected to that office on March 8, 2018.
