The FAMU Rattlers dominated visiting SWAC foe Jackson State Tigers, yesterday, 10-1 in the first game of a three game series.  Senior pitcher Caleb Granger showcased his prowess on the mound, striking out 10 Jackson State hitters over seven innings, solidifying his pivotal role in securing the win for the Rattlers.

Joining Granger in the pitching spotlight was Junior Cody Williams, who contributed significantly with two innings of solid relief. Williams conceded only one run on two hits, showcasing his composure on the mound with three strikeouts and no walks.

While Granger and Williams commanded the pitching duties, the Rattlers' offense came alive with standout performances at the plate. Senior Sebastian Greico led the charge, going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, a walk, and an RBI. Additionally, Senior Ty Jackson and Senior Jalen Niles made significant contributions, with Jackson tallying three hits, including a double and two RBI, while Niles recorded three hits and three RBI.

The Rattlers wasted no time in seizing control of the game, opening the scoring in the first inning with Jackson crossing the plate to give FAMU an early lead. From there, they continued to pile on runs, with Niles delivering a pivotal two-run single in the fourth inning to extend the Rattlers' lead to 3-0.

Despite Jackson State's efforts to narrow the deficit, the Rattlers remained relentless, adding three more runs in the eighth inning, with Niles delivering a crucial two-run single to extend their lead to 10-1.

The Rattlers and the Tigers meet again for game two in the series today at 5 pm at FAMU’s Moore-Kittles Field.
