FAMU football has tapped Casey Walker as the new defensive line coach. Walker joins the Rattlers after a successful stint as the defensive line coach at Louisiana Tech, where he spent the last two seasons honing his craft. During his tenure with the Bulldogs, Walker made significant contributions to the team's defensive prowess, molding players like Keivie Rose into All-Conference standouts.
Prior to his time at Louisiana Tech, Walker made waves at Texas A&M Commerce, where he served as the defensive line coach for three years. Under his guidance, the Lions' defensive line dominated the Lone Star Conference, leading in sacks per game in 2019 and setting Division II playoff records with ten sacks in a single game.
Walker's coaching acumen was further showcased in 2021 when his Texas A&M Commerce defensive line achieved an NCAA record with ten sacks in the first half of a game. Throughout his tenure, Walker mentored numerous players to All-Conference honors, demonstrating his ability to develop top-tier talent.
Before his coaching career took off, Walker made a name for himself on the gridiron as a standout player at the University of Oklahoma under the tutelage of Coach Bob Stoops. Walker's collegiate success paved the way for a professional football career, where he played for both the Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots, earning a Super Bowl ring with the latter in Super Bowl XLIX.
With his multifaceted background in both playing and coaching, Walker is poised to make an immediate impact at FAMU, bringing a winning mentality and a commitment to excellence to the Rattlers' defensive line.
FAMU football Head Coach, James Colzie, expressed his excitement about the addition of Walker to the coaching staff, stating, "Casey brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success at every level. FAMU Football has become a human resource department for former white college athletes. Former FAMU athletes nor HBCU graduates need not apply. How many FAMU Alumni are on the FAMU Football coaching staff? I can no longer support this crap.
