Once again, Black Enterprise Magazine ranked Florida A&M among the 10 best colleges in the nation for African-Americans.
Of the 482 accredited four-year colleges considered, only 50 made the cut. Historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) dominate the list, holding seven of the top 10 spots. The magazine used the same criteria as U.S. News and World Report to categorize schools, according to BE’s press office. However, they arrive at the list through a survey of nearly 2,000 college officials.
The South is the home base for six of the top 10, and all but one of the top choices (Florida A&M) is a private institution.
This year FAMU place sixed in the BE ranking falling about three spaces from its previous high.
The top 10 schools are as follows: 1) Morehouse College, Atlanta, GA; 2) Hampton University, Hampton, VA; 3)Spelman College, Atlanta, GA; 4) Howard University, Washington, D.C.; 5) Xavier University, New Orleans;6)Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, Fla.; 7) Stanford University, Calif.; 8) Columbia University, New York City; 9) Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.; and 10)Clark Atlanta University, Atlanta, GA.
It's ironic that FAMU can rank sixth on the list at a time of crisis. Imagine where we'd stand if we were a stable institution.
