Dean Searches Off to a Slow Start

It seems that the search to fill the many vacant deans positions across campus is off to a slow start. We understand that in some schools and colleges the interal search committees have be in place for the past two weeks, but have yet to meet.

Further, committee members have no clue to who the other committee members are or who chairs the committee. This doesn't broad well for meeting a June 30th deadline to have news hires in place.

There are five open dean positions currently advertised --- College of Education, College of Law, College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Business and Industry, and School of Nursing.

Debra Austin, provost and vice-president of academic affairs, told the FAMUAN this week, "that there are two more dean positions open." The Dean of Arts and Sciences and Dean of CESTA are both vacant, but have not yet been advertised.

In February, the University singed a $250,000 (plus expenses) contract with the Chicago based Hollins Group to conduct combined dean searches for the five vacancies currently being advertised.

  1. With the current instability, it's difficult for FAMU to attract VPs or deans who really have any going for themselves. We have to settle for individuals like Debra Austin, who was forced from her last job and is clearly in over her head at FAMU.

Vincent June is also poor quality. Rather than trying to restore FAMU to prominence in National Achievement Scholar recruitment, he want to bring in more white students--claiming that FAMU is not "diverse" enough.

These people are jokes. We need strong leaders like Larry Robinson and Phyllis Gray-Ray again.

  2. And now you have the definition for "Change in Enrollment Mix"

The legislators nor TCW would not allocated funds to stop the erosion of minority (majority) students; but they would allocated funds to recruit more majority (minority) students.

As matter of fact, didn't June and Bryant cut out recruitment dollars for our children?
