New Names for some Campus Buildings

The Florida Legislature approved measures naming several buidlings at FAMU during the 2006 Legislative Session. The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Building will now be known as the Herbert F. Morgan Building; SBI will be known as the Sybil C. Mobley Building; the Allied Health Building will be named the Margaret Lewis/Jacquelin Beck Allied Health Buidling; the School of Architecture Buidling is the Walter L. Smith Building; and the Black Archieves is the Carrie Meek/James Eaton Southeast Regional Black Archives Research Center and Museum.
Naming a building after Walter Smith! Damn, I guess Gainous is next.
ReplyDeleteI can take Walter Smith, but I think it's blasphemous to put Carrie Meek's name before Mr. Eaton. He, more than anyone, is the Black Archives.
ReplyDeleteWhat's blasphemous is the ignorance behind post 10:59 p.m.
ReplyDeleteThe Honorable Carrie Meek is a staunch supporter of FAMU and the Black Archives.
Dr Eaton is a great person and did an outstanding job with the Black Archives, however, one must give credit where it is due.
Congresswoman (former) Meek was entirely responsible for the $4.0 million dollar renovation that breathe new life into the Black Archives. Without her support on the Federal level FAMU would have never seen this type of funding/renovation.
Grant it, Dr. Eaton did receive support on the state level, but nowhere near what was needed to make the Black Archives structure the jewel it is today sitting upon the highest of seven hills in the state of Florida.
What you see today is $4.0 million dollars from the efforts of Congresswoman Meek.
Since Dr. Eaton and Meek were good friends, I doubt very seriously if he has a problem with the naming of the building, since he was very aware of her funding efforts.
Just too bad they weren't both there for the grand-opening.
#1. Anon, I am FAR from ignorant.
ReplyDelete#2. I stand by my statement. I was there and watched him work HARD in the old President's House. It's not always about money or funding. It's about the labor of love Eaton showed for the Archives. I also know Congresswoman Meek loved FAMU and was a friend.
Maybe I could have WORDED it differently but... I still believe in what I wrote.
Peace.
