The United Faculty of Florida (the state organization) has called a 3:30 p.m. Press Conference on the steps of Lee Hall to announce that they are filing a lawsuit against FAMU alleging unfair labor practices.
Among the concerns of the UFF is that employees of the FAMU Developmental Research School are being shut out the proposed 2 percent pay increase.
This will be UFF's fifth lawsuit against FAMU for unfair labor practices during the Bryant administration.
The UFF contends that the BOT, during it's April 24th emergency meeting, approved a 2 percent raise for all university employees employed since July 1, 2005. On April 28, Castell Bryant arbitrarly sent a memo to FAMU DRS employees indicating that they would not be getting a raise.

Meanwhile, we hear that 16 FAMU DRS instructors have resigned to accept jobs elsewhere and that enrollment at the lab school, like the university, is down.
Austin out as Provost?
We are also hearing that FAMU Provost Deborah Austin is deciding to call it quits. Our sources say Austin has had enough and no longer wants to work in an environment where she is not wanted.
The sudden about face on Mrs. Austin's part is unexplainable. You may recall, her appointment as provost was met with fierce opposition by the FAMU faculty.
The sooner Dr. Austin leaves the better. I gave her the benefit of the doubt when she came on board but if you have ever seen her in action (more like inaction) then you know she is in over her head, and veers very close to incompetence.
ReplyDeleteShe can't run an organized meeting, can't make a decision, and has mishandled everything she has touched thus far, I think thats putting it lightly.
Austin said she ain't going anywhere.
