Renowned surgeon LaSalle D. Leffall Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S., who has dedicated his professional life to the study of cancer, especially as it relates to African Americans, and particularly cancers of the breast, colorectal, head and neck, performed his final round of surgeries yesterday, Tuesday, May 16, after more than 50 years. A graduate of Florida A&M University and the College of Medicine at Howard University, where he ranked first in his class (1952).
Howard University Hospital nurses, doctors, staff and employees lined the hallway outside the Operating Room yesterday at 2:15 p.m. to applaud Dr. Leffall as he left his last surgery. Dr. Leffall plans to continue teaching and seeing patients.
