FAMU to host Minority Health Symposium

FAMU and the Univ. of Florida will host the 21st Annual Symposium on BioMedical Career Opportunities in Biomedical Sciences, April 4-7, 2007 in Orlando.

The Symposium is a way to: 10 expose underrepresented minority high school and undergraduate students to a wide array of career opportunities in biomedical sciences and health professions; and 2) provide mentors and role models to encourage students to pursue careers in biomedical sciences and health profession.

The Symposium is a two and a half day event that allows a diverse group of students the opportunity to interact with well-known minority professionals from a wide spectrum of biomedical sciences and health professions to encourage them to enter these respective fields. Participants are exposed to various biomedical career opportunities through educational workshops, video presentations, interactive sessions, exhibits/posters and entertainment aimed at engaging and motivating students to continue their strong performance and focus on biomedical careers

The online application process the Symposium opened on September 15, 2006 and runs though October 31, 2006. In order for a student to be considered for the program, they will have to complete the application and submit a transcript (current high school or college) and 2 letters of recommendation to an Association of Minority Health Professions Schools (AMHPS) school representative or a non-AMPHPS representative.
