FAMU General Counsel, Liz McBride writes opinion for trustees justifying the use of taking a vote by secret ballot. While secret ballots have never been done, Ms. McBride's questionable interpretation of the law is yet another attempt to provide BoT Chair Challis Lowe the necessary cover to vote by secret ballot.
Nevermind that a secret ballot is the equivalent of having a secret meeting, which in the state of Florida is illegal. All you FAMU legal eagles and scholars need to chime in on this and cc the State Attorney General and Governor's Offices.
Further, we understand that FAMU's Chief Information Officer has been TOLD, by the administration, he doesn't have the staff or the equipment to FAMCAST tomorrow's trustee meeting.
As usual, click document to enlarge.
What is going on? How can this general counsel provide anyone with legal advise.
ReplyDeleteSecret does not equal in the Sunshine. What is the problem with voting by show of hands or verbally?
This writing this and that and reading it out loud is a waste of time and might I add good paper.
Jack Bauer on that clock!
ReplyDeleteOne should ask the question why all of a sudden the necessity of secret ballots to vote for the president. Why the secrecy? However, from McBride's letter even though the trustees can use 'written ballots' to vote "...their votes are reported openly at such public meeting..." and "...a Trustee must sign his or her ballot and the vote of each Trustee must be read openly in the meeting." So, as the (9:42) blogger asked they might as well raise their hands and vote verbally.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the worse part of her note was the second paragraph that says webcast capabilities are not operable until July 1st, 2007? What happened Mr. CIO? "...lack of staff and the necessary equipment?" We don't care if you have to stand in there yourself with a video camera and microphone to cover this most important meeting. They had the equipment at one time. What happened to the equipment?
As an alumni this type of gross incompetence and lame excuses are really getting tired. Whomever is selected, and i hope its Ammons, one of the first thing he should do is wipe the slate clean of the CIO and what's left of his staff and bring in a COMPETENT CIO who understands a show of this magnitude must go on and be presented to the public in the most accessible way {via webcast with audio & video}.
Hey, can we use some of Castell's bonus to hire a local private video company to get it up on the web?
Update. Ken Perry has not worked at the University for at least 6 months.
ReplyDeleteIf you ani't got that right, you probably are lying about the secret ballot too.
What's so hard for any of you to comprehend about what she stated ... Unless you all just can't "read"?
ReplyDeleteShe has stated that they can't have a SECRET Ballot ... But they can have a WRITTEN Ballot!
Instead of trying to create another reason to folks to simply b**** & complain about HER, while you're up there today, why not ask someone the REAL reason(s) why the FAMCast has been down all this time!!
Then who is Liz McBride referring to in her email as CIO?
ReplyDeleteAnybody got a name?
OK. Ken Perry may not be their but the CIO office was told they don't have the staff to webcast this BoT.
ReplyDeleteHowever, they were able to FAMCast the last Trustee meeting. Go figure.
It is all public record. Written, verbal, otherwise. None of the reporters in the room will let this fly. Trust.
ReplyDeleteThere is too much do it any way you want to do it going on at FAMU. It seem like no one in higher authority really care's. God be the glory to it all.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't help but to read the aforementioned comments and to much of my dismay I am disgusted.
ReplyDeleteAtt. McBride isn't suggesting that votes be made in secrect. In fact she is ensuring that the opposite is done. Perhpas when dummies start reading for clarity the confusion of the message will be demystified.
The current administration here at Florida A&M Unversity has done the work need to reposition this university for excellence.
The university will be better off when people who are ill informed stop speaking the loudest.
so whether the noTrustees write down their votes or just raise their hands, we will know that day who did not vote for Ammons, and consequently who we need to run out of town.
ReplyDeletebill tucker and famuff will have the bot meeting on their web cite tomorrow, way to go famuff!!!
ReplyDeleteThe current CIO is Larry Henderson. RN should investigate what's going on at ERP and the lack of support staff in the IT campus operations. You'll very little unity in that division.
