I'm glad to see so many big names making it to the Hill (Cosby, Susan Taylor, Sistah Souljah, etc). I'd love to hear what any attendees thought!
ReplyDeleteI thought Cosby was great. It was quite unfortunate, however, that the other panelists were overshadowed by such a great personality. Once he committed, they probably should have changed the format and just let Cosby be the feature.
ReplyDeleteHe touched on a lot of things, but what he kept bringing home was the notion that teachers (blacks in particular) are going to have to demand better conditions through coalitions and protests. He went as far as to suggest that they are going to have to depend on the community (churches, fraternities, etc) to help them. While he was not advocating for re-segregation, he did seem to allude to the fact that we are going to have to take more of a communal approach to educating our children --- kind of like things were when I was coming up in the sixties.
And that's exactly how it should be, 10:21PM. WE have to help each other because no one will do it for us.
