A week's rest and Cliff Brown were too much for Florida A&M to overcome Tuesday night at the Dayton Arena.

Brown, a 6-foot-7 senior forward, scored a career-high 32 points to lead Niagara to a 77-69 win in the play-in game of the NCAA men's basketball tournament.

The Purple Eagles (23-11) will go on to Chicago as a No. 16-seed and face No. 1-seed Kansas in Friday's first round of the tournament.

The Rattlers (21-14) finish the season with their best record in 20 years and their second trip to the NCAA tournament in four seasons.

  1. "Just imagine what could have been ... With just a few of those Free Throws made!"

But - Galant Effort Nonetheless Rattlers. Nothing to be ashamed about one bit ... As there are over 200 other schools - INCLUDING one right down the Hill from us - that would have killed to be in our shoes last night!!

And to top it ff ... We sure wrecked everyone's night that had money on Niagara (an 8 point favorite) ... With that last 3 pointer!!

"Vegas Just LOVES US Right Now!"

    "LOL!"

  3. If Hump was here, he would have fired up the SNAKE and took the Pep Band, Cheer Leaders and students off the yard to the game to cheer the Rattlers on. This administration are fake Rattlers with no Rattler Spirit at all. Hurry up and get here Dr.A. This crew needs to go ASAP.

  6. Maybe, maybe not. The Pep Band and cheerleaders were at the MEAC tournament. While everyone else was on Spring Break relaxing they were working so to speak in Raleigh, NC. Just like the team, they did not arrive back to Tally until sometime Sunday after a bus ride back. To expect them to turn around again within 24 hours to take another and longer bus ride to Dayton is a bit much.

The better question is, Where were all of the Rattlers who live in Detroit, Ohio, Indianapolis and Chicago? Why didn't SGA schedule a bus of students to go to the game? SGA has its own budget and could have foot the bill for students, pep band and cheerleaders. These are all student groups going to support other students.

The reality is that this happened very fast. Unfortunately the turn-around time was murderous.

Thank goodness for Coach Gillespie and his family. If it were not for them, there would not have been any Rattler support in Dayton. Thank goodness for the handful of Rattlers, less than 50 who came to the tournament. While the rest of you were sitting in front of your computers pontificating on all that is wrong with FAMU,some of us were acting like true RATTLERS---supporting the university and its entities.

Rather than always blaming the administration, let's talk about how we as alumni and students let the team down. How many of you traveled to Raleigh to cheer them on? Spent your money for 4 nights in a hotel and $100.00 for tournament tickets? I did and do every year. When will our alumni wake up and do their part and perform their role and stop worrying what others are and are not doing.

Were you there? Were you there? Were you at the airport to greet them when they returned on Sunday? Where you there today to greet them when they returned on Wednesday? And why not? That's what I want to know.

Waiting to hear all of your excuses and blaming others. When are the students and alumni going to get off of their butts and do their job---support the university and the students....

  7. 8:30--good for you, good for you. You're the kind of Rattler that the teacm needs. Unfortunately, everyone might not be in a financial position to do what you do (and do so often.) Ok, so we know already that you got it like that. Lighten up.

  8. Thanks to RN or I would not have caught the game on TV.

We need to do a better job of promoting these types of events outside of the Capital Circle/Leon County beltway.

If the Univ found out Saturday that we were going to the play-in, it would have been nice had someone contacted those Alumni chapters in those areas. I found out about the game from RN.

Sorry, but the local news doesn't report on FAMU in Indianapolis and I not a ESPN fan, but I do love myself some Rattlers.

    Thanks for representin' anonymous at 3/14 @ 8:30 p.m.

  9. Yeah, Andrew. Like 8:47 PM said- Lighten up. There those of us who support the university in so many other ways. And that support is no less than what you give. So, give it a rest.

Your right. I'm guilty. We do need to do more. Remember with us, and most HBCUs, its about the show and not the game. It's about the performance.

A lot of us always seem to revert to these two LAME @SS EXCUSES when someone puts us in our place!

You/WE have the financial resources to afford to do EVERYthing ELSE we want to do ... Including spending MILLION$ of dollars in the fall following behind our footbsll team and band all over the place - that we don't get receive SQUAT back in return - that could be better served enhancing our OWN Campus, facilities ... And community ...

And - For what it's worth ... WE DON'T support the School in ANY other fashion, so quit trying to make someone think simply chatting with some kid you see on the street is doing a helluva lot!

This schedule was simply asking too much for all our kids to endure - much like what we ask of our Band to go through in the fall as well ... BUT then again - These are the kinds of things that all of the "Forward Thinking" & progressive Athletic Programs DO think about - and plan for, and if WE want to be included among them, we just have to start thinking and planning like them also.

As was stated above, it's time to quit complaining about everything that "didn't" happen - and also always looking to blame our Prez for every single thing that goes on up there - and start utilizing this experience to work towards moving our Program(s) FORWARD.

You're soon gonna have nuthin' else to b**** about starting in July ...

    "Except about yourself!!"
