Ammons vows to have FAMU off probation shortly

"In a very short period of time we'll have both the university and pharmacy off probation," FAMU President James Ammons, told faculty and staff Wednesday during one of his recent forums.

SACS will be on campus October 2-5. The Council for Pharmaceutical Education is also moving up its visit. Rather than 2008, the Board will visit the College of Pharmacy this November.

On his 80th day on the job, Ammons said his administration has been "taking care of business" and is on track to restore financial order.

When a faculty member complained that local and national vendors won't do businesss with the university, interim CFO Teresa Hardee, said "we (the university) wrote vendors and asked them not to deliver goods and services unless they had purchase order." This would help ensure that money is in the budget before items are ordered.

Much to the delight of faculty and staff, the head Rattler says pay raises are also on his agenda.

"That gives me hope that if he's going to look into it then I really believe that. Now as my father told me years ago, time will tell the story," said FAMU employee Charlie Weaver.

  1. Dr. Ammons, in my humble estimation, is doing a wonderful job. While there are miles to go before he sleeps, I think he is slowly but surely bringing the institution back from the brink of death. I shudder to think where we would be if Dr. Thelma Thompson (remember her?) had been selected to oversee the institution. It would certainly have been, I believe, a repeat of what was already happening at the university. What a difference REAL leadership makes.

  2. And to think The Hollins Group got paid for doing a thorough background check on this woman even though she/UMES were in the midst of a criminal investigation and jacked up audits, to boot.

I still can't get over members of our BOT voting for her to lead us.

Thank God it's a new day.

  3. It's said that Thelma Thompson had cut a deal to retain Castell V. Bryant as an "executive vice president." Basically, Castell would have continued to run the day-to-day operations while Thelma would just be a figure-head making speeches and collecting a paycheck.

Fighting back against Castell and Jim Corbin's plot definitely kept FAMU from closing down.

  5. Believe it or not, there are still quite a few people who believe that Dr. Thompson would have been a better choice than the leader we now have. There are a handful of faculty members at the university who supported Thompson because with a woman in the seat, they believed that that would have been some kind of ticket to a position to an administrative position at Foote-Hilyer. Had Thompson been selected, we could all have kissed the university goodbye. Now, some of those same people who wupported CVB and Thompson are mad because Dr. Ammons has not given them the danggone time of day. Now, let me see if I have my ownself clear here: You support Thompson over Ammons and now you're mad because Dr. Ammons has not so much as said "hello" to you? Some folks have their nerve.

...are you serious. What is the heck are these people thinking. Do they not believe Dr. Ammons knows who they are?

Why are they still an employee at FAMU? People.

    Way to go Dr. Ammons.

  7. Dr. James Ammons is the RIGHT MAN FOR THE RIGHT JOB AT THE RIGHT TIME. WITHOUT QUESTION, the UNIVERSITY would be is ASHES, had he not been selected. The ATMOSPHERE surrounding the CAMPUS IS FRESH and CLEAN. His appearance in public is electric. His enthusiastic RATTLER CHANT has caused a resurgence of that RATTLER SPIRIT. His HEAD ON RELENTLESS ATTACK OF THOSE "ILLS" which caused SACS PROBATION shows the SKILL -- KNOWLEDGE -- and GRAVITY with he executes this position as President of FAMU.
May GOD Bless Dr. Ammons and Family as he continues the REBUILDING of FAMU in the PERSUIT OF EXCELLENCE in ALL AREAS OF THIS PRESTIGIOUS INSTITUTION -- HEAD HEART HAND FIELD.

  9. Had Thelma been made president, SACS would have shut the school down. To think we were ONE VOTE away from the continuation of the bullshit from the Sith.
