FAMU launches blog

They say imitation is the best form of flattery, well the FAMU blogsphere just got a bit more crowded with the launch of the RattlerWire blog produced by the FAMU Public Relations Office. Earlier this year, St. Petersburg Times launched their own blog dedciated to FAMU News, and late this summer the Tallahassee Democrat started RattlerNews, dedicated solely to FAMU sports.

Choice is the bedrock of a free society, so we at Rattler Nation "the mother of all (FAMU) blogs" welcome these latest entrants to the blogsphere. Now, the Rattler Nation should be well informed.

Its the Rattler Nation -vs- Corporate Media.

  1. Are there any renderings of the new teaching gym?

  2. The drawings i've seen are obsolete, things have changed so much.

Also, they are too large to scan and post.

  3. Even though FAMU PR has gotten in on the blogging act, I still prefer Rattler Nation. This is still the best place to have frank, candid discussions on all things FAMU.

The FAMU PR office is going to tightly monitor all the posts on its blog. They're not going to let us to describe Castell and Carolyn as wicked witches or permit us to slam dirty trustees.

Rattler Nation: A no B.S./spin/political correctness zone.

  6. I think the Democrat also started a similar feature for FSU news and as far as imitation goes, I think Rattler Nation is looking too deep into the situation.

I feel like all the PR office wants to do is have different avenues and options for students, faculty and staff to find out about what's going on at the university.

I'm a PR student at FAMU, and of course they're going to tightly monitor the sight...THAT'S WHAT GOOD PR IS ALL ABOUT!!!!! Over the last couples of months this blog has turned into a circus anyway!

This is OFFICIALLY last time logging onto this MESS OF A BLOG...and by the way FAMU's blog is rattlerwire.blogspot.com...BYE BYE!

  7. I'd beg to differ, I think the tone of RattlerNation has changed since it relaunch, but then again so has the entire tone of the University since that witch left.

  8. 3:54--no one cares if you do not log onto RN anymore. who do you think you are that anyone gives a hoot about what you do or do not do. anyway, there are errors in your writing, so perhaps you should not log on anywhere until you have had a refresher course in basic writing. and you call yourself some kind of journalism student? yeah, right. (and you know you'll still come here to RN. you aren't fooling anyone. you want to know the street scoop, no matter what you say. if you're any kind of journalist, being nosey is what you're about anyway.)

I agree. When the previous administration was in office, we had people like godblesscastell and others coming on RN accusing anyone who criticized her as being disloyal to the university.

There were also Castell supporters who came on RN to tell lies about Dr. Ammons during the presidential search process.

The tone on this blog is not nearly as contentious as it was during those days.

Dr. Ammons' return has dramatically increased morale and optimism about the university's future. FAMUans are not as jumpy and angry because most believe the institution is in good hands.

Still, people like Carolyn Roberts present tremendous threats to FAMU's progress, and we won't be able to talk about those issues in any frank manner on the Rattler Wire blog. Of course, that's not a criticism of what the PR office is doing; it is a direct extension of the president's office and Dr. Ammons can't let anonymous posters slam his bosses.

However, here on Rattler Nation, we can say whatever the hell we want.

    Castell is a trifling hag!

Carolyn Roberts a conniving political hack with an anti-FAMU agenda!

See. We can say those things here without having to worry about them being deleted. It feels good to have a place to vent and cut through the B.S.

  11. I think it's enough room to support all the blogs. You gotta give credit where credit is due though......FAMU is making a great commitment to keeping the FAMU community informed. So maybe everyone can get the best of both worlds. RN may just need to get back tight though, all of their stories are either taken from the Democrat, Outlook or the FAMU site itself. It's definitely a different feel with the new RN. But in all......LETS SUPPORT BOTH!!!!!

  12. I found out that Williams-Russell & Johnson and Akin & Associates Architects, Inc. worked on the design for the new teaching gym. With the money that Akin & Associates Architects got to design this project there website looks very "elementary." Turner Construction is also working on the project and had the following on there website:

Turner is currently providing preconstruction services for a new Teaching Gym at Florida A&M University. The multi-purpose facility will total 160,000 SF and, in addition to a 10,000-seat arena, will include classrooms, offices, fitness areas, locker rooms, concession areas, retractable seating, and practice courts. The gym will be home to the Rattlers basketball and volleyball teams.

  13. Hey 10/09/2007 11:09 PM

Instead of spamming every post on Rattler Nation and Rattler Wire with questions and comments about the teaching gym, why don't you just ask the university administration directly and then write a letter to the editor of a a newspaper.

At least try and stay on topic.
