Nobody likes rejection. Wether its being turned down by the prettiest girl at the church dance or not making the rec center team. Rejection is a downer.
This morning the Rattler Nation will wake up feeling a little stupid after being rejected in a highly public way by Grambling coach Rod Broadway. Oh the nerve of him and after such a long courtship!
Hey, it is what it is. Surely, there are lessons to be learned from the Broadway ordeal. Lets heed them and move on.
What lessons have been learmed from the Broadway affair? Don't make changes too quickly. Our recruitment will be hurt this year.
ReplyDeleteCarter needed to go. Recruitment or not, Carter just couldn't coach! Plain and simple. Lessons learned, don't put all your eggs in one basket.
ReplyDeleteAlways have a back up plan and work both simultaneously.
Was Broadway the only man or are we speculating again? There are many good coaches out there. I hope they had a backup plan.
ReplyDeleteComparing all things relative, Broadway has a better chance getting into Div I coaching at Grambling than FAMU. Grambling has the history (Eddie Robinson), more national exposure (BAYOU CLASSIC), and job safe environment. FAMU will get a good coach no doubt, but Broadway probably weighed the whole picture and decided to stay at Grambling.
ReplyDeleteWithout going all of the way back to the '70s, name one HBCU coach who moved into Div 1 coaching?
ReplyDeleteI understand your point, but again, all things relative, he feels he has a better chance at Grambling than at FAMU. It's about the potential of the platform. If they (Div 1) schools were going to look for one, esp. with the current concern of not enough Black coaches being in those arenas, where would they look first? Grambling would be ahead of FAMU. Plus, the volatility of FAMU life. I think he chose to be safe.
ReplyDeleteGrambling has NO aspirations of true glory with a National Title. They just want to win the Fried Catfish and Neckbone Classics and call it a season. You could coach there forever as long as you win certain games.
ReplyDeleteFAMU is looking for the National Titles son. Every year. We want the playoffs and we want to win in the playoffs. You can't deliver that, you are out like 5000.
It is not Broadway. No one wants to work for a "Bill" Hayes!!!! Maybe we could have gotten him if he could report directly to the Chancellor.
ReplyDeletewhat's wrong with Hayes?
ReplyDeleteShould never let Billy Joe get away!
ReplyDeleteThis might be the best thing for FAMU. There might be a better choice out there for us than Broadway. I am happy with the way the Dr. Ammons is conducting the process, as the President or AD, you should be able to bring in your guy. Thats how they do it at the big schools. I also like the idea of paying the coachings 200 to 255,000 dollars, that way they know the expectations. Don't be surprised if we can pursade an OC or DC from a BCS D1 program.

ReplyDeleteBroadway worked under Hayes at NCCU and quit. He apparently didn't want to work under Hayes
again.
Look Broadway can stay at GSU. He's not the only coach that can win. Not sure he would have been a good fit for FAMU. If he can't handle the heckling from GSU, he would be dead on the job day one at FAMU.
ReplyDeleteThis is FAMU and the name speaks volumes. GSU is a regional (name) school. We are a national (name) school.
Good luck in the Boonedocks -- Broadway! Them swamp-haters gonna fry you like catfish and treat you like a mud-puppy next year. I hope you got a buyout clause in your new contract.
Who cares if Broadway didn't come. Next....
ReplyDeleteWill someone please look at John Mckenzie.
