Off topic: Michelle wins them over

Michelle Obama's prime time speech on the opening night of the Democratic National Convention was a success. Barack Obama's wife is managing to reframe her image from a caricature into one that is more compassionate and multi-dimensional. The speech on family and values by the striking and eloquent lawyer is receiving rave reviews and the editors of Buzzflash have called her story "the American dream."
While you debate the hyperbole, consider the new polling from Gallup which shows her speech could sway some voters. Over half of Americans "say a presidential candidate's spouse is an important factor in their vote." Earlier this year, Michelle Obama's negatives were much higher, but, as the public began to know more about her, Gallup reports her favorability has increased: "Michelle Obama does not appear to have a distinctly different overall image in the eyes of Americans than does her husband." The complete Gallup Poll and cross tabs are here.
Michelle Obama's prime time speech was very good—but it's a shame she was forced to say, "We're the same as you." Let's hope last night's speech helps with the campaign.

Actually, her speech wasn't very good. It wasn't bad (speechwriters and focus groups mke sure that doesn't bad) but certainly nothing other than mudane for convention fare.
ReplyDeleteSay what you want, her delivery was AWESOME!!!!
ReplyDeleteI thought she connected well with the her audience.
She never addressed her biggest criticisms... that she is a American hating radical...and that she is an angry black female.
ReplyDeleteshe needs to run for office. She has much bigger cajones than Obama. You think she would let China and the Arabs run all over us like Bush has?
ReplyDeletei watched her, and i really don't know what all the hoopla is about. she was aiight, but she wasn't anyting spectacular. i mean, she was cool & all, but people will believe about her whatever they want. she's smart, sassy, well-spoken, and, well, tall. very tall. and, well, what else is there to say? she just happens to be married to the "O" man, and they have two pretty little girls, and everyone is smart and good-looking, and well. . . smart & good-looking.
