OT: Issac Hayes dead at 65; Mac succumbs at 50

It has been a busy weekend for black, celebrity, obituary writers, this afternoon Isaac Hayes, the iconic Grammy and Academy Award-winning singer songwriter with the buttery soul baritone voice, died at his Memphis home. Hayes was one of the most important musical artists of the late 1960s and early to late 1970s, ushering in the new disco movement and branding the Memphis sound with the legendary Stax Records.

Hayes was currently working on a new album for Stax. The legendary singer had just finished work on a movie called Soul Men, in which he played himself, starring Samuel Jackson and Bernie Mac, who, unfortunately also died this weekend.

Bernie Mac succumbs at 50

Bernie Mac, born Bernard Jeffrey McCullough, died early Saturday morning from complications of associated with Pneumonia.

Mac was only 50 years old, and had been ill for an extended period of time and at one point this week was actually responding well to treatment. But things turned fatal.

The actor’s upcoming movies include “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” starring Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and David Schwimmer; and “Soul Men” with Samuel L. Jackson and Isaac Hayes.

His death is incredibly sad news for everyone who loved and respected him. R.I.P. Bernie Mac.

  1. This is heartbreaking news for Bernie Mac fans as well as Isaac Hayes fans. These two entertainers, who gave us themselves, will be remembered for all the wonderful gifts they brought to us through their extraordinary talents. The good die young -- and both were young. Meanwhile, the Current Occupant -- who has brought nothing but disgrace, heartache, and pain to millions -- smiles and waves and continuously plays the Village Idiot in Beijing. Go figure. Can't figure.
