The rah-rah has subsided. So did the grunts and groans of FAMU football players going through off season strength and conditioning workouts. Yesterday, the Rattlers who returned to campus last week in preparation of their 2008 football campaign --- their first under Head Coach Joe Taylor --- took a short break to pose for pictures and address the media at the school's annual media day.

The Rattlers hope to improve greatly on last season's dismal 3-8 record which cost former head coach Rubin Carter and his entire staff their jobs.

Taylor said the Rattlers can again become contenders for a championship if they protect the football, something they worked on during spring drills. Last year's team lead the league in turn overs .

"No matter how good you are, you can't help your opponent," Taylor said. "We've got to protect the ball and we can not turnover the ball. If you're turning the ball over, you're diminishing your opportunities."

  1. I'm excited for the new season.....GO RATTLERS!!!!

I just hope the players can do better than the athletic department staff, but then again, ANYTHING is better than what they're doing right now.

To the players, look internally for your leadership and success, because im sure you don't see it in the "professionals" that are running the department.

  2. I'm not sure if AD Bill Hayes is up for the challenge. As far as I'm concerned, he's a good person, but we need more than just a "good person" in that position. An AD needs to come out from behind his desk and raise funds from the corporate sector as well as the alumni.

I suggest we recruit former rattler and Valdosta State's AD, Herb Rhienhard for our next AD, beginning July 1, 2009.
