Just over a year after her victory in the inaugural competition,
third-year law student Cameryn Rivera partnered with second-year law student
Loren Vasquez to take top honors as Best Team against Barry University Dwayne
O. Andreas School of Law, Cardozo School of Law, InterAmerican University of
Puerto Rico School of Law, and Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico
School of Law. Rivera brought additional prestige to FAMU by receiving the Best
Advocate award for the competition.
The contest was hosted by the Puerto Rican Bar Association and held in Miami, Fla. as part of the group’s commitment to host the event in a different location each year. Participants in this year's competition received a set of hypothetical facts involving the rights of United States citizens living in Puerto Rico to vote for the president of the United States, and have voting representation in Congress. The teams were required to write briefs and then argue the "case" before a panel of judges selected by competition organizers.
The FAMU College of Law Moot Court program is directed by
Professor William Henslee, and the winning team was coached by Professors
Rebecca Olavarria and Kristy D’Angelo-Corker.
