Shaun Ward makes a tackle during FAMU’s 2013 matchup against
SSU |
Last year, FAMU Head Football Coach Earl Holmes picked up
his first conference win of the year with a 27-13 triumph against SSU on the
road. If he and the Rattler gridders pull out a victory today in Tallahassee,
it will also break the painful string of seven consecutive losses in Bragg
Memorial Stadium since 2012.
From the Savannah Morning News article, “SSU, FAMU meet in a
battle of winless teams”:
Savannah State’s losing streak has reached 14 straight
games, including five this season, but the Tigers have a shot to stop the
bleeding today.
SSU visits the equally winless Florida A&M Rattlers, who
have lost five straight games.
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference contest kicks off at 5 p.m. at Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee Fla.
“It’s a battle of the 0-fers,” said SSU coach Earnest Wilson.
“They are 0-5 and we are 0-5. I’m proud of my team because I know they are
doing the best they can, but I don’t like losing period. It’s not good for team
morale, and it’s not good for my morale.
“It is our job to come away with a victory, and we have got
to figure out how to win games. That’s the bottom line.”
Last week, the Tigers dropped their homecoming game against
Norfolk State, 14-7. It was Savannah State’s closest game of the season.
