Gibbs, a 5-9 senior outfielder from Orange Park, Fla., was
chosen to the All-MEAC First Team. Gibbs
is a triple threat for the Rattlers. He
has a solid bat, great coverage in the outfield and speed to burn on the
basepath. Last season, Gibbs batted
.335, second on the team behind Bennie Robinson who was drafted to major league
baseball last season. Gibbs garnered 66
hits with 11 doubles and 21 RBI. He had
a slugging percentage of .416 and stole 13 bases in 16 attempts.
Making the All-MEAC second team was slugger Kennedy. Kennedy’s most memorable moment came against the University of Florida last season, where his two-run blast over the left field fence gave the Rattlers the lead on UF, which they wouldn’t relinquish in a historic 4-3 first ever win over the Gators. Kennedy batted .303 last season, collecting 60 hits, 40 RBI and eight home runs.
The Rattlers shared the MEAC Southern Division crown last
season with the Wildcats of B-CU. Jamey
Shouppe’s record of 26-26 in his initial campaign was the first non-losing
season in nearly a decade. The
turnaround from a team that had won but seven games total in each of the
previous two seasons earned him MEAC Coach of the Year honors last season.
Delaware State was the 2014 MEAC northern division champion.
The Hornets finished the season with a 30-15 overall record and 17-7 MEAC mark.
Bethune-Cookman captured the top seed in the 2014 MEAC
Baseball Championship. The Wildcats finished last season with a 14-10 MEAC
record and a 26-31 overall mark. Bethune-Cookman has won sixteen MEAC Baseball
tournament championships.
