Shawnta Friday-Stroud is the new Florida A&M University interim vice-president for advancement. She replaces George Cotton, who resigned effective today.

Friday-Stroud, who previously served as dean of the School of Business and Industry, led the negotiation process that resulted in a $5 million pledge from SBI alumnus John W. Thompson and his wife Sandra Thompson in Fall 2014. It is the biggest private gift in the history of FAMU.

The Thompsons are transferring the money to FAMU in installments of $1 million over five years.

Friday-Stroud is a professor of management. After graduating from SBI with her B.S. and M.B.A., she earned her Ph.D. in business administration/management from Florida International University. She has scholarly publications and consulting experience with public, private, and civic organizations in the areas of strategic planning, mentoring, leadership development, conflict management, and diversity training.

Back in 2008, Friday-Stroud chaired the leadership team for FAMU’s successful reaffirmation of accreditation process with the Southern Association of Colleges of Schools.
