Dr. Lawrence Carter, the longtime director of the Cooperative Extension Program in the College of Food and Agriculture Sciences, has retired after 45 years of service to FAMU and the the College of Agriculture.

FAMU's Cooperative Extension program is the heart of the university's land grant mission.  The Cooperative Extension program is the outreach portion of the College of Agriculture and helps to share the advanced knowledge of the agriculture faculty with farmers in the field by sharing best practices.

Carter and his team helped to expand the knowledge base, by sharing innovations with North Florida families, farmers, and business leaders. He helped to spears that knowledge to a younger generation through the establishment of a 4-H summer enrichment program and youth development programs.
