FAMU social media gives nod toward inclusion

Many of our nations institutions and corporations are increasingly celebrating equality and inclusion this June as part of what is known as Pride month.  FAMU is among a handful of HBCUs to join in.

Fifty years ago, on June 28, a protest that began outside the Stonewall bar in New York City helped spark a movement that has profoundly shaped our world as LGBTQ Americans decided that they would no longer stand in the shadows.

FAMU's slight nod toward recognizing Pride month by its few social media post represents a step in the right the direction, but must be backed up by actions that show it truly recognizes the contributions of its LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff and alumni who contribute so much to our community each day through teaching, research, and service.  FAMU, and other HBCUs, must show that it is committed to making its campus environment a place where everyone feels valued, safe, and supported.
