FAMU recently held a recruitment event at Tallahassee Community College (TCC) where more than 300 prospective transfer students attended.
“The Fall 2019 FAMU Day at TCC proved to be a tremendous success. Over 300 prospective TCC students attended the event and were exposed to all that FAMU has to offer,” said Randolph Bellamy, assistant director of FAMU Transfer Student Services.
Representatives from all FAMU colleges and schools were on hand to engage students and answer inquiries about program requirements and other issues. Admissions, Financial Aid, Financial Literacy, Scholarships and Student Activities office staff were also there to discuss services and offerings available at FAMU.
More than 60 percent of FAMU’s community college transfers come in through the TCC2FAMU partnership program. About 278 TCC transfer students enrolled at FAMU during the last academic year.
Bellamy said transfer students get individualized guidance with the transfer admissions process to ensure smooth matriculation from their current institution to FAMU. They also benefit from low cost of tuition compared to other state universities, shorter time to degree completion, transfer scholarships and more.
Students who transfer from TCC to FAMU are guaranteed admission with an associate’s degree or 60 college credits. FAMU has similar partnerships with 15 other Florida community colleges.
FAMU must increasingly rely on community college transfers to grow its enrollment as the Florida Board of Governors has pressured the university to admit fewer freshmen students. Growing enrollment plays a key part in FAMU's financial overall financial success from athletics and everything else.
