Mattie Hood               Kenneth Wilson

In a surprising turn of events, Kenneth Wilson, FAMU’s newly appointed comptroller, has resigned from his position after just one month on the job.

Wilson was touted by the university as “a highly qualified professional with a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential and an MBA in Finance and Strategic Management from Purdue University, who brought a wealth of experience to his role. ” His previous positions included serving as controller/director at the University of North Texas Foundation and acting senior vice president for Finance/chief financial officer (CFO) at the Florida Institute of Technology. He had also held significant roles in public higher education at prestigious institutions such as Purdue University and the University of Michigan, along with contributing his expertise in budgeting at Case Western Reserve University.

Wilson's tenure, which commenced on February 12th, was cut short due to reported conflicts with Mattie Hood, the interim Assistant VP for Finance & Administration. While the specifics of the disagreements remain undisclosed, sources close to the matter suggest that the differences related to Hood’s dogmatic management style and attempts to micromanage may have been contributing factors.

The university, had anticipated Wilson's appointment would bring stability and financial expertise to the division on the financial services side of the house as no one within top leadership of the division has a financial background. Hood's role in the resignation has raised questions among staff about the overall direction of the division.  Since Hood's appointment as interim VP, there have been numerous resignations largely due to her management style.

.

In response to inquiries regarding Wilson's departure, university officials have been tight-lipped, expressing gratitude for his brief service and wishing him well in his future endeavors. However, they have refrained from commenting further on the circumstances surrounding his resignation.

  1. Mattie Hood is crazy! Even her daughter-in-law quit and went down to the law school because she didn't want to work with Mattie.

    1. Leadership won't update policies, procedures, or systems in a way that's beneficial to faculty, staff, or students. Until that happens, employees can't perform at their full potential anyway.

  5. It looks like VP Brown keeps promoting all her friends. Is to the rumor that Hood had the Comptroller escorted off campus by FAMU PD.

  7. Unfortunately she is not the only one who should be removed. Someone needs to do something soon. Ken was an excellent choice, but I don’t I understand why your Controller didn’t report to your CFO.
