In a landmark achievement for FAMU, President Larry Robinson told trustees yesterday that the university has secured more than $102 million in sponsored research funding for the fiscal year 2023-2024. This significant milestone marks the first time in FAMU's 136-year history that it has surpassed $100 million in research dollars.

"Significant and impactful research is taking place at FAMU," Robinson told the Board of Trustees. "Our research is far from being esoteric and is addressing so many of the intractable challenges facing urban and marginalized communities."

Robinson emphasized the broad spectrum of research initiatives that have contributed to this achievement. "Whether we are talking about resources received from our federal partners or those received from our corporate partners and individual donors, the more than $100 million achieved during FY24 is a strong endorsement of FAMU’s central role in driving innovation in our state and nation."

FAMU's research endeavors span several critical areas, including addressing bias in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Systems, reducing educational disparities, tackling health inequities, researching violence prevention, enhancing cybersecurity programs, and producing a diverse talent pool to bolster competitiveness in Florida and beyond.

"FAMU is fast positioning itself to be one of the top institutions in the nation," Robinson added, highlighting the university's contributions to solving complex societal issues.

With 30 days left in the fiscal year, Robinson expressed optimism about the potential for even greater funding. "We fully expect this number to go even higher," he said.

This unprecedented level of funding underscores FAMU's growing reputation as a hub for innovative research and its commitment to making a tangible impact on pressing societal issues. As FAMU continues to attract significant investment, it is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of research and education both locally and nationally.
