Pharmacy faculty issue resolution of discontent

The faculty of the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science has gone on record stating their disatisfation with the administration and trustees of the University.

Particulary, the faculty is disappointed in the teaching and research laboratory space available for the college's use. It seems that when the new Pharmacy building was constructed it was to be built in two phases. Phases II of the new facility has not yet been built and has recently slide down the university's priority list from No. 2 to No. 12.

Pharmacy faculty contend that they space available is inadequate for a college of its size and worry space will become an issue in its upcoming accreditation visit.

The issue blew up this spring at a BOT meeting when the interim president asked to move money appropriated by the legislature for planning the additional space and used it for other university purposes. See: Showdown in O-town & Bryant v Pharmacy Faculty

Discontent

A "resolution of discontent" is a step just short of a full vote of no confidence by faculty.

  1. Bill Tucker tried to push a faculty vote of no confidence in the Bryant administration back when the new provost and VP of research were hired without faculty input. However, Mary Diallo, working at the behest of the administration, did everything she could to block it.

Tucker discussed the possibility of bringing the proposed vote of no confidence back to the faculty senate. Hopefully, the faculty will do the right thing this time around and show that it is not okay for Bryant-Austin to damage FAMU's academic operation and trample shared governance.

  2. What prompted Mary Diallo to abandon the Cassie/Debbie shipwreck? Was she not invited to one of their late-night chats? Did she later find out that she really did not belong to the "Real Club"? How dare they forget faithful Old Mary? She was dumped overboard just like Barbara Jones. Now, how does it feel Dr. Mary? Dumped overboard??? How dare Cassie?

  3. Well that's what it looks like happened. Let this be a lesson to all the wanna-bees, Cassie is using any and everyone to push the CABAL's agenda, including certain alumni on and off campus.

Hopefully, this will appear soon on Rattlernation as well.

    Tsk, tsk, Diallo....

  4. Mary Diallo is a snake in the grass. Don't be fooled by her child-like voice. She is ot to be trusted. In the meantime,CVB and her EdD degree need to go back to south Florida. Who the hell has an EdD degree in adult and vocational education and calls themselves running a university. She got that damn "degree" from some screwball place called Nova. WTF? No wonder she doesn't know jack. Lord, help us all. We are all falling into the abyss. Where's Fred Gainous?? I opt for Fred to come on back. Damn, this shit couldn't get any mf worse.

  5. I have to speak against the previous post. Like us all, Mary Diallo is imperfect. Having worked closely with her, and having disagreed strongly with her on many issues, I must say that she is a person of high integrity and a loyal Rattler who sincerely seeks the best for FAMU, its faculty, and its students.

  6. Audit Finds $2 Million Deficit at Cheyney University

An annual audit of Pennsylvania's 14 state-owned universities has found that Cheyney University finished the 2005-2006 fiscal year with a deficit of more than $2 million, officials said Thursday.

State System of Higher Education spokesman Kenn Marshall said the system would hire an independent auditing firm to perform a more detailed review of Cheyney's finances. The review is expected to determine how the school's spending exceeded its $35 million operating budget.

The system will use the results of that analysis to develop a financial recovery plan for Cheyney, a historically Black university that enrolls nearly 1,600 students in suburban Philadelphia.

"We are determined to identify and correct the problems that caused the deficit so that we can put the university on a sound financial course for the future," said Kenneth M. Jarin, chairman of the system's governing board, in a statement.

The university is operating normally and the system is prepared to borrow money if necessary to help the school meet its expenses, Marshall said.

"We want to assure students that their education will not be disrupted because of this," he said.

Robert W. Bogle, chairman of Cheyney's trustees, said the school would work with state system administrators to remedy its financial problems.

Until CastHell, Fred Gainous was the worst president to serve in the history of FAMU. There will be no petition to bring him back. That chapter in our history is closed and should remain so.

Just like CastHell Freddie G did not have the skill sets to run a comprehensive university. His background was more along the lines of overseeing the Vocational/Industrial system in the State of Alabama.

For example, we aren't in the business of producing students with certificates who want to become plumbers, electricians, nursing assistants, dental hygienist, etc.

  8. Fred Gainous had a community college background experience and he served very well in Kansas and Alabama. Although he lacked university level experience, he made an outstanding decision to hire Dr. Larry Robinson as provost. Dr. Robinson came well prepared with credentials to lead the Division of Academic Affairs to a new level. Dude Cassie hired Debbie Delta sister who bring her "fear of the black-experience" to the table from TCC and Bethel AME Church to the table. Casthell and Debbie (Dummy leading the Blind) and FAMU going down the tube. Debbie overseeing the Pharmacy Faculty (Drs. Soliman, Dr. Lee, Dr. Holder, Dr. Lewis, Dr. Thomas, Dr. Inge, Dr. Kirksey, and many, many other Giants). These researchers and academicans stand tall in their fields and professions: scientists, pharmacy law, practitioners: experts being led by "want-to-be's". How careless of the BOT? Are you listening BOT? Are you listening?

  9. Henry Lewis III would have made a good president for FAMU. Keeping him would have saved us from Gainous and Bryant.

  10. Why don't you ask the faculty and staff in the College of Pharmacy if Henry Lewis would have made a good President. Henry Lewis deceived Dr. Humphries and intimidated the faculty in his short stay as Interim. He and remember Art Collins made a mess of things by trying to pull-off an attempt to stay on when he had agreed not to be considered for the permanent job in 2002. Henry was passed over as President for BCC so why in the picking do we want a BBC reject. Of course, he would be better than Casthell but FAMU needs a real President with the credentials of a Melvin Stith, Johnetta Cole, Walter Massey, or Louis Sullivan. These individuals have stellar track records with outstanding support within Corporate America and with Federal and State funding agencies. Henry inherited an outstanding faculty when he returned to FAMU from Texas Southern where he was being forced out. Look beyond Henry because he has passed his time to be President at FAMU. Go tell it on the Mountain that that Henry is out of step. Anyway he is a good friend of James Corbin and we certainly don't need that "Kind of Witch Craft on the Hill". Out with the BOT and Casthell, and please no Henry.

Hank/Henry ain't ----! He will stab you, your mama, your daddy and anyone else that gets in the way of his ambition.

Question, can anyone tell the RN how many wives Hank has had? This ain't no trick question. Then tell us how many were actually students when he met them, dated and married them. I can name 4. How many can you come up with?

Do you really want to release this type of person on the female student body? There are things about Hank that you just don't know about. Let him rest in peace in the teeny-tiny corner office in the Pharmacy building.

  12. I agree with 9:38pm. I didn't forget. Good enough to be interim remember. We REALLY should get a "Super Friends, Justice League" type of all-academia leadership. I'm a student and I would definitely help to get Massey, Cole, Stith, Cornell West, Hugh Price and the like, here at FAMU!Wee should proceed according to the mission and along with the alumni and students, faculty, past presidents, Tavis and the covenenant. Authorities in each of the disciplines, need to fully develop the FAMUEXPERIENCE and not leave one stone unturned. Theory and practice should be highly engrained into the experience. Who is to play what roles? Get in where you fit in best! Maybe as trustee? Professor, PROVOST! This place could be untouchable soon enough. Time to step it up and show generations of our youth-to-be-FAMUans that we REALLY MEANT THIS to be the most dynamic University in the World. Internationally and nationally sought by our young people the world over, without reservation. Beacon of Opportunity, Conduit of awareness, vessel for Excellence, Fostering conscious Leadership and Caretaker of the community.
