Florida A&M University has learned that its College of Education, one of the cornerstones of its 14 programs, has received full accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teachers in Education (NCATE) and the State of Florida.

“What this means is that, through this process of verification, we can say that we have a quality program and quality graduates, with the evidence to show it,” said Dean Scott Jackson Dantley.

“This is wonderful news for our university,” said Interim President Castell Bryant. “No one can question the quality of our education program, that send teacchers to train young people all over the country.”

Dantley further explained that NCATES most recent visit was “a focused visit,” which addressed one of six standards. FAMU had passed all others in 2004, but was found to be non-compliant for Standard 2 (Unit Assessment Systems), one of the most difficult for its advanced programs.

  1. Dantley further explained that NCATES most recent visit was “a focused visit,” which addressed one of six standards. FAMU had passed all others in 2004, but was found to be non-compliant for Standard 2 (Unit Assessment Systems), one of the most difficult for its advanced programs.

Has the COE just been granted initial accreditation? Or, has its existing accreditation been reaffirmed?

  3. This isn't inital, they've been fully accredited before. During their last accreditation visit, they were cited in an area and full accreditation was witheld. That's my understanding of this.

  8. Quite a number of initiatives and programs were already in place when Dantley arrived. Not to take anything away from the man, because I'm sure he has done a great job, but we must also acknowledge the fact that there were veteran academicians in place before he arrived, and he was instrumental in getting everything else in place.Let us not forget that one, single person cannot do the job alone. I'm simply saying that props must be accorded many others as well.

I think everyone here knows that one person can't do everything. Im sure it was a group effort by the faculty, staff, and students. A deans job is indeed to bring everyone together.

    hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

THE JOB WAS DONE BY THE EXCELLENT FACULTY AND STAFF WAYYYYYYY BEFORE THIS DEAN CAME ON BOARD.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.... Congratulations to the seasoned and mature faculty who have stayed the course. You guys ROCKED!

Believe it or not, there were many competent people familiar and involved with the NCATE process for many years.

I guess the NCATE accreditation was the reason this young person was GIVEN tenure without going through the process that others had to go through (except Ms SACS - V.H.).

  11. 12:09, for your information, VH did indeed go through the tenure-granting process. you don't know what you're talking about.

At a time when we actually have good news at FAMU theirs always that person who finds a way to hate on the situation. And for your information, I've already said that I know it was a group effort so take your hate somewhere else. Its uncalled for right now. Why can't we just be happy for eachother?

  13. VH did go through the tenure & promotion process. She was just GIVEN the promotion. She did not meet the requirements, so her girl hooked her up.

  14. May I remind the idiot above, that those veterans had lost the College's accreditation and that is what neccessitated his hiring.

Ya'll some nasty people and ya can't give anybody some well-deserved praise. Just a bunch of low-life foot dragging muthafuckas!

    HATERS!

  16. No maybe they are not haters, this could be another phony taking credit for stuff where their influence was questionable. Remeber Dr. Bryant had an $8M surplus. Remember Dr. Bryant took credit for BE College of the year,

Congratulations are indeed in order for COE, as for Dantley however, the jury is still out. He's only been here for a year and the accredidation process is a process that takes years to unfold. Clearly much of the heavy lifted was done by the "seasoned" FAMU professors who like many on campus actually know what they are doing.

I'm not hating on the brother but he was brought in by Vincent June and any and everyone that Vincent June helped get here is put mildly, very, very, suspect and immature for their level of responsibility.

4:51 p.m. & 6:20 p.m. - Don't stoop to such low levels and name calling, besides "it takes one to know one"

  18. 9:16--for your uninformed information, tenure and promotion are two separate things. One has nothing to do with the other. VH was granted tenure, but she has the same title as she did before the tenure was granted. Now, whether or not her girlF hooked her up with the granting of the tenure might/might have some merit. I think, perhaps, it probably does, but again, I say, that the tenure and promotion process are two separate entities. If you don't know what you're talking/gossiping about, stay off the dadgum board.

  19. there's a connection betw. Dantley and Dantley? What's the connection? Because they, er, know each other and are, um, chummy chums? Is this what is being said?

  20. I totally agree!! Give the seasoned faculty praise also. COE was working on accreditation when he arrived. It was one area that COE was cited in. However, he may have assisted with this. But don't say he did it all. And June brought him in. He needs to work on Student Affairs!! Especially the dorms and Polkinghore Village going to waste!!
