The 2014-2015 school year has been a rough one for the FAMU Department of Athletics. But on Sunday, there was another reminder of the end result that the department is capable of achieving.

Former Rattler football standout Brian Tyms got his chance to proudly hold the Vince Lombardi Trophy this weekend along with the rest of his teammates on the New England Patriots. Even though Tyms did not see action during the 28-24 win over the defending champion Seattle Seahawks, he still earned his Super Bowl XLIX ring by earning his spot on the roster.

Tyms picked up the "84" jersey number on the Patriots squad by proving that he had the athletic and mental ability to be part of the best team in the National Football League.

Tyms represents the promise of FAMU athletics. FAMU’s mission is to offer quality programs that help young people reach their dreams. If Rattlers invest more in the university’s sports teams, then FAMU will have even more success stories like Tyms’.
