Rattler Nation has learned, that the BoT Chair is moving to have the vote for the next president of FAMU taken by secret ballot. We were reminded about this possibility last evening, and had to go over our notes from last Wednesday's presidential search committee meeting where, sure enough, the topic was broached.
This would be quite an unusal move, as the vote to hire Fred Gainous was a roll call vote, as was the vote to fire him. Additionally, the vote to the current interim was also a roll call vote.
Further, we are not aware of any BoT in the state which has taken a secret ballot vote.
So are they afraid to announce to the world that they did not support a particular candidate?
ReplyDeleteThey weren't ashamed to name Fred Gainous or Castell Bryant? So what's the big secret? Just raise your hands like the last time so that we will know exactly who we are dealing with.
Lowe has got the right last name beacuse she is just low down and dirty..
ReplyDeleteStraight up cowards!
ReplyDeleteLook, they are operating on the advice of Liz McBride. When have you ever seen this board vote on anything with a secret ballot or ballot for that matter.
ReplyDeleteEveryone should email the Commission on Ethics and the Attorney Generals office to put these folks on speakerphone, cause evidently they just don't get it. We ain't hearing or going for anymore lies!
It couldn't be more obvious that these people are trying to clear the path for a presidential hiring decision that will be disappointing to the overwhelming majority of FAMUans.
ReplyDeleteNow that the Student Senate has endorsed Ammons, every stakeholder group except the BOT has said he should be FAMU next president.
ReplyDeleteWhat happens if the BOT rejects the wishes of all the other stakeholders? Will this presidential search be a sham? Will it mean the stakeholders never had any real input at all?
The Corbin cronies are not just going to pack up and go into the night. Remember, power concedes nothing without a demand!
The Stakeholders at FAMU really do NOT have an input.
ReplyDeleteThe NAA took about 2-3 years and mustered up $250K for a scholarship donation. That is barely enough to endow one (1) full instate scholarship. Therefore, the NAA has no weight whatsoever, b/c the NAA cannot threaten to 'cutoff' donations to FAMU if they do not get what they want.
That's how the game is played. You need to be already donating periodically for quite a while to have any power when decisions like these are made.
The BOT knows that Ammons may be appointed, and that FAMUans will run out of town anyone that voted for anyone else. That's why the secret ballot. The crowd at the Ballroom may instantly rise up in a roll call vote as soon as someone says a name that doesn't start with the letter "A".

ReplyDeleteWhen and others put you money where your mouth is then you have earned a place at the table to criticize the stakeholders, until then SU!
To add to my earlier statement, those that donate time through recruiting, alumni work etc are also stakeholders.
ReplyDeleteIf the only thing you have to do with FAMU is that one polo shirt you got at the bookstore, going to the Classic, a little websurfing, and watching the ESPN Bottom Line for basketball scores, you are not a stakeholder. You are a dick holder. That's about it.
