The Rattler defense sacked Norfolk State quarterbacks five times and kept their offense out of the end zone yesterday afternoon to pave the way to the FAMU's 16-6 victory over the Spartans.

The Spartans' lone score came on a fumble recovery in the FAMU end zone in the third quarter. Brandon Denmark led the Rattler defense with 10 tackles.

Running back James Owens and quarter back Damien Fleming ran for a combined 163 yards and two touchdowns before a crowd of 10,627 in Norfolk, Va.

Owens finished with 18 carries for 89 yards, while Fleming ran 10 times for 74 yards.

The Rattlers (3-6, 2-3 MEAC) limited NSU (2-7, 2-3) to 217 yards of total offense.

Neither team had much success passing the ball,  FAMU's two passers combined to complete 7-of-17 throws for 72 yards, while NSU's three quarterbacks completed 5-of-16 passes for 66 yards.
