FAMU grad Will Packer is among four distinguished individuals to be approved as new limited partners of the Atlanta Falcons football club. The NFL owners approved Packer, alongside former Olympic gymnast Dominique Dawes, former Walgreens and Sam’s Club CEO Rosalind Brewer, and venture capitalist Rashaun Williams, during a league meeting held on Tuesday in Nashville.
Packer, is an influential figure in the entertainment industry, is celebrated for producing hit films such as "Girls Trip" and "Straight Outta Compton." His addition to the Falcons' ownership group is expected to bring a fresh perspective and new energy to the franchise.
"This is not just an investment in a team, but in a community that is passionate about its football,"
Marc Ganis, a sports consultant with extensive experience working with NFL owners, explained the rationale behind adding limited partners to ownership groups. "The primary reason for bringing in limited partners is to provide financial support," Ganis said. "As the valuations for sports teams soar, limited partners help absorb the significant costs associated with purchasing and running a franchise."
The role of limited partners, however, goes beyond mere financial contributions. While they do not hold voting power or direct influence over daily operations, their involvement can bring valuable expertise and diverse perspectives to the table. This becomes especially relevant in an era where the business aspects of sports franchises are becoming increasingly complex and multifaceted.
With this strategic move, the Atlanta Falcons aim to bolster their financial stability and leverage the unique talents and networks of their new partners. As the team gears up for the upcoming season, the involvement of figures like Packer, Dawes, Brewer, and Williams is poised to enhance the franchise's profile both on and off the field.
