Florida A&M University has been placed on probation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, which is the accrediting association that oversees the university.
Tom Benberg, vice president and chief of staff of SACS commission on colleges, confirmed the decision to place FAMU on notice in light of the financial problems that have become public knowledge. The decision was made Thursday evening during the committee's June meeting in Ponte Vedra.
Update...
In its letter to FAMU, SACS wrote that the major reasons for this action are a lack of leadership at the president's level, lack of leadership at the Board of Trustee level, fidiciary responsibility, and the University's most recent audit.

thanks Vivian! thanks Castell!
ReplyDeletethanks for sticking it to us in the booty with a sandpaper condom
ReplyDeleteNow that last comment is too much!
ReplyDeleteVivian did not have anything to do with this. She tried to correct the sins of the past and straighten this out.

ReplyDeleteIt's obvious that you have no idea about FAMU's past history with SACS. The university passed its 1988 and 1998 review cycles and received full reaffirmation of its accreditation both times. FAMU was never placed on SACS probation during the Humphries years.
This is clearly Castell and Vivian's doing. Neither of them had any business near a university-level accreditation process. We are suffering because of their inept performances.
You people are without facts. The probation stems from the auditing concerns that have been reported about in the mainstream papers. Get the facts before trying to grind axes against Dr. Hobbs or anyone else. Syhe has had nothing to do with the 35 audit findings....

ReplyDeleteYou are right that Vivian is not responsible for the bad bookkeeping. However, she is responsible for the gross misrepresentation of the SACS faculty credentialing regulations. Vivian has said that the only way for faculty to qualify to teach is by having 18 graduate credit hours in a specific discipline.
That is completely false. SACS also permits faculty to qualify through alternative credentialing, namely professional experience and research.
Vivian and Castell tried to use their phony interpretation of the SACS rules to fire numerous professors without justification.
Can anyone confirm if Vivian Hobbs will continue to head up SACS under Ammons? She tellin' the world Ammons needs her. I hope this is a lie.
ReplyDeleteShe tellin' the world Ammons needs her. I hope this is a lie.
ReplyDeleteWhat FAMU needs is Walter Mercer back in charge of the SACS committee. But most of all, the university needs to fire Grace Ali and put Charles O'Dour in to straighten out the financial mess NOW!
There yall go talking about research and alternative credentialling again LOL. Aint no "research" jumping off outside the hard sciences...Get real...
ReplyDeletedoes anyone know if dr mercer will even be willing to assume the SACS spot if dr hobbs is no longer in the seat? it's like asking al gore to come speak at florida's democratic national convention in the state that stole the election from him. let's hope that if he is a forgiving man and will accept, if offered the job, out of the goodness of his heart.
ReplyDeletethank you castell and co for incompetence thank you thank you thank you!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR NON-LEADERSHIP!!!!
ReplyDeleteThere yall go talking about research and alternative credentialling again LOL.
ReplyDeleteCastell and Vivian have no excuse for misrepresenting the SACS guidelines. The guidelines call for the university to consider alternative credentials as a method of qualifying to teach.
Castell and Vivian lied when they said 18 graduate credit hours is the only way to qualify to teach. That's the bottom line.

ReplyDeleteNext, you'll start justifying Vivian's miraculous tenure and promotion and all of the research she is doing.
Vivian, Castell and the rest of these rejects were just a motley crew who are clueless and swinging by their (you fill it in).
Defending Vivian Hobbs in this mess?!? Now that's straight comedy. There weren't any probationary sins before vivi and cassie AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES got ahold of FAMU. Ms. "I don't work past 1:00" was in way over head.
ReplyDeleteDUNCAN, HOLMES, and BRANKER, YOU ALLOWED THIS TO HAPPEN! If you had ANY shame, you would step down from the BOT b/c you sat idly by and watched them destroy our University. SHAME ON YOU...YOU SHOULD'VE BEEN GONE WITH THE REST OF YOUR COHORT!
ReplyDeleteGreat news!!!! If nothing else, this illustrates to me that the problems are not transitory and are going to require serious change at the top leadership rungsw of the university. I can't think of any better ammmunition for Ammons to make heads roll in a couple of weeks!! FAMU needs change in major, major ways and this is an indication that change will be inevitable.
ReplyDeleteDamn, is there anyone who on campus that can speak and not sound like a cave woman/man?
ReplyDeleteJust saw Larry Robinson on Channel 6. He needs to go back to the research lab and stay there.
July 2, can't come fast enough!
The crediatialing process governed by Vivian Hobbs has nothing to do with the probation instituted by SACS. You folks are sadly and madly misinformed. Read the paper; listen to the news! We are on probation b/c of the reports of financial mismanagement and the numerous instances of gross, fiscal negligence. I am certainly not defending Dr. Hobbs, but let get (and keep) the facts straight on this. Faculty credentialing is a separate entity from financial mismanagement. All of these areas fall under the umbrella of accreditation, but they are still and very much separate components. I'm a faculty member at the university, so perhaps my information regarding this latest development is more fact-based than what many in the public domain receive. I know that many folks want to blame everyone associated with anyone who might have said "good morning" to Castell Bryant, but I assure you, this latest issue does not belong to Dr. Hobbs
ReplyDeleteI beg to differ with you. The SACS placed FAMU on probation also for integrity issues surrounding the lies and lack of corporation from the academic and administrative officers being: Castell, Debra, Liz, Vivian, Rufus, June and the rest of the flukies. We all can recall the lies that Vivian, Debra, and Castell told about what the SACS members had told them about the requirements when they fired the SBI faculty.
ReplyDeleteLook, Vivian is in the center ring of this 3 ring circus and the audience was our dumb arse BOT.
ReplyDeleteShe is just as much to blame as Castell and Debra.
They are all liars and SACS will reveal as much.
Belle S. Wheelan, president of the association's Commission on Colleges, said Florida A&M was placed on probation for problems with 10 standards, including those dealing with financial stability, compliance with financial-audit requirements, and the integrity of administrative and academic officers.

The questionable integrity of academic officers (e.g.: Castell, Debra, and Vivian) was a reason cited for the probation in addition to the financial mismanagement issues.
Fuck the "nappy headed hoes" (including Gainous) that took over the presidency since Hump did his thing...yall better fix my school like yesterday....

9:55--you can "beg to differ" all you wish, but I stand on my previous comment. Are you a faculty member at the university? I don't mean are you an employee. I'm asking if you are a faculty member? If not, you don't know the process as many of us do who are there in the mix and had to undergo the credentialing scrutiny over several months.
ReplyDelete6/23/2007 @ 3:24 PM.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry you missed the point. I am a faculty member and have been a contributing one since 1988.
Will someone help name 5 leaders that were good to FAMU. Everybody gets attacked here, from Humphries to the janitors, so I was wondering who was any good at leading??? I was just wondering...
