Payday came and went for many adjunct professors, teaching and graduate assistants across campus without them receiving a paycheck.
In the College of Arts and Sciences officials said the delay was necessary because of "adjustments in course scheduling and/or late paperwork." There was no mention how long the checks will be delayed.
See: No pay for TAs and Adjuncts
Checks short/TAs go without
Some professors not being paid
THIS IS A MORAL OUTRAGE!
ReplyDeleteYOU DON'T $*%K WITH PEOPLE'S PAY.
SOMEONE SHOULD BE FIRED OVER THIS.
It is a federal offense to deny employees pay for any reason. FAMU knows this and continues to try to validate their actions, knowing that most employees will respond with passivity rather than outrage. I advise all adjuncts, graduate assistants and teacher's assistants to contact the Department of Labor office in Jacksonville.
ReplyDeleteHow do explain those individuals whose paperwork was complete and still did not receive pay? The old "blame the victim" tactic makes no sense. The real reason behind TA's and adjuncts not being paid is the mismanagement of funds by FAMU administrators.
ReplyDeleteAthletic department is doing the same thing. Rumor is they are close to 3,000,000.00 in the hole.
ReplyDeletethe first sign of a business about to go under is its inability to meet payroll.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you work for an employer that will not pay you?
If you are such a sucker, I have a job a my company that would be perfect for you.
Who is going to pay the brother's rent? Castell should write a check.
ReplyDeleteyou know this mess has been going on, like, forever. it's just absolutely horrendous that when people work all month or week or two weeks and expect to get paid for theri services, there's some kind of "paper" delay or "mix-up." Do they think that the rent people care, or the car note folks give a darn or the mortgage reps care about any doggone "mix-up"? I promise you they do not. I'm on regular line now, but I've been an adjunct and I know what not getting paid is like. You know this kind of madness wouldn't be happening anywhere else, but FAMU gets away with it
ReplyDeletebecause the folks responsible for such things are the most incompetent rascals I've ever known in my life. Good Lord! This just simply makes no sense at all.
How do you have paperwork issues with an ERP system?
ReplyDeleteHow do you pay people all semester and somewhere in the middle, you figure out that their is a mix up in paperwork?
How can you allow people to work an extra 2 weeks without ceasing their work since they can not pay; that is, if you let someone work for two weeks under an assumed contract that had been paid for this far into the semester, how can you stop paying them?
Furthermore, has anyone in the administration mixed any of their pay? And if they did, what would be the retort of such actions?
This is a moral, ethical and legal pot of crap. This is not caring. This is vile. This is not FAMU. I believe that someone should be CAST OUT!
my fiance was a new hire at the school last Fall and this happened to him. He had to wait until damn near homecomin get paid. But Im sure Castell and her cronies got paid on time.
ReplyDeleteJanie Greenleaf is the real hold up, and the truth be told, she is the one running FAMU. The reason the TAs and adjuncts have not gotten paid is because she spearheaded a move to make all graduate contracts and OPS paperwork come through her office. She reviews and stamps everything, and if she is out of town, the stuff waits patiently for her to come back. Then the pile is sent to Big Sister for her stamp. Academic Affairs used to handle this, but they took of DA's power.
ReplyDeleteBetcha Janie her check.
I have been an adjunct at FAMU and EVERY time I signed a new contract I had to wait until several weeks into the semester to get paid. It was always like "this never happens.. its not my fault.. its their fault... they didn't sign this.. they didn't send that."
ReplyDeleteBULL$$$T!!!!
Someone is an incompetent dolt that can't figure out how do pay people.
I got sick of that. I got bills to pay.
Cancel KPMG 2 million dollars contract and pay these people
ReplyDeleteJune and Greenleaf can do their lap dance somewhere else. Start writing them letters. It's time to go!
ReplyDeleteThere are secretaries and various faculty and staff that haven't gotten paid, so don't act like the problem resides solely with Janie Greenleaf. The truth, as I've stated before, is that FAMU doesn't have the money to pay adjuncts, TA's and graduate assistants, as well as other people on campus. The time for whining and trying to diagnose this problem is over and I've already abandoned my class, refusing to work for free. I suggest everyone else do the same. I have also contacted the Department of Labor. Some of you are too scared to take action. If you want to work for free, do so. But the last person in my family to do that lived in 1864.
ReplyDelete^^^^
ReplyDeleteIf you can be patience until the new fiscal year, the president for the interim has promised to pay you. However, all of this crying ain't gonna solve anything.
Man this is ridiculus. I'm quite disappointed in the University. We must do better because if all the TA's, adjunt professors, and grad assistants walked out, alot of classes will be canceled. Hence, students paying tuition but not getting taught. No one should have to work for free. Time is money, pay the people ASAP.
ReplyDeleteNo other place on earth would someone ask you to be patient (until the new fiscal year, which is in June, I think) when it comes to getting a paycheck. Do you really think TA's and adjunct professors can realistically wait patiently as eviction notices and credit bureau infractions begin to mount?
ReplyDeleteWAIT UNTIL THE NEW FISCAL YEAR!?!?!?
ReplyDelete#@(&* the (**@#& the &*(@$%^! my @*&(#^&!

@$#$%@ @$%!
I am a proud FAMU Alum.
ReplyDeleteI also attended FAMU for graduate school and left because I got tired of this SAME SITUATION.
There is no excuse for TA's and Adjunct Faculty to NOT GET PAID FOR SERVICES performed. This is despicable and Cassie and the top level administration wanted to put their money where their mouth was, they wouldn't have gotten paid either until the situation was remedied. That's what a real leader does.
Wait until the fiscal year??? Who the H has time to "wait until the fiscal year," when bills need paying, like, NOW? The fiscal year begins July 1, 2007. By the fiscal year, mfers'll be out on their arses 'cause they ain' had funds to keep a roof their head. Fiscal year? Surely you jest!
ReplyDeleteWhen has she proven to have the skills of a leader? Well.....Like you forgot. You better remember who we are dealing with and count the days she takes her silly behind flys her broom on out of here and take them fools with her.
